Fright Night

I dream of the day I no longer see this….much less so often.
Both unfortunately AND fortunately….I did see this one and naturally, it horrified me as it does every time.
Emaciated, covered in rain rot, bleeding abscesses …..
This is one that needed immediate help and of course…..I could not ‘unsee’ it nor turn away.

It infuriates me that people ( I use the term loosely) profit from the suffering of an animal in this way.
In this case the ‘ransom’ ( Bail) was $1000 for the pair. Though that caused me to , for a moment, forget my manners and cuss a blue streak…………..
How could I let that stop helping her?
The answer is : I couldn’t.
It also concerned me greatly a horse in this condition being fundraised without a home or plan in place.

Late Monday evening I posted her for help with ‘Bail’ , as I know all too well the much larger expense would be care, veterinary, et cetera.
Let’s just say this one quit kept me awake in anger and fear for her…
Would she still be standing the next morning?
HOW can this continue to happen so bloody often….
You get my drift.

Though the original plan was she go to a trusted friend in Cameron, Texas her condition made me think another route was best for her.

Admittedly, MANY people stepped up for this girl and her bail amount was quickly met. They were safe!
I am so HUGELEY grateful to all who partook in the rescue of this horse and would love all to follow her journey .

‘Macha’, I’ve decided to call her, for the Irish Horse Goddess of Injustice(very fitting!) was picked up from East Texas Equine( A Texas ‘kill pen’ ) and taken to a trusted hauler’s own property for the night, to be watered and rest a moment.

Early Wednesday she and her foal ( Along with another emaciated mare and BRAND NEW foal: I’ll be telling that story as well!) were taken to Kemp, Texas to my most trusted of people, Shana.
All arrived safely , and are now undergoing their veterinary and beginning re-feeding program.
In our opinion, the baby sold with Macha is in fact, not hers.
He is around six months of age, QUITE the healthy little chunk, and shows no interest in nursing her. This is a GOOD thing, for this poor mare has nothing to give, no ‘milk bag’.
Bless her for taking him in as she has…..I believe they have been of great comfort to each other.
(Sweet little guy, too!)
I feel it is actually a blessing, for two lives were saved but he is healthy and old enough to be weaned, as this mare needs rest and intensive care. He will remain nearby her , of course.

Her injuries and severe malnourished condition are our first priority.

I will certainly keep the updates coming, and here they are!
