DREAMS

‘Horses give us the wings we lack’.
~ Pam Brown

Here’s the thing……
I ( and many others) catch a great deal of flak for ‘riding our horses’.
‘But how on EARTH can you ‘rescue’ horses if you ride them?
I’ve spoken before on this topic but feel led to do so again.
This time…I will approach it a bit differently.

Think back …….
When you were a child.
Did you never dream of having a horse? To stroke their head, climb upon bareback and ‘ride like the wind’?
Did the child you were see this as an act of cruelty ?
I certainly did not.
YES, there are those in the world who are cruel, abusive, and force animals to do their bidding.
I wish those acts could be eradicated from this world but…….
Not all are cruel.
Not all use force and abuse.

Have you not known the sheer JOY of a horse ALLOWING you to be their person?
To WANT you on their back and share adventures together?
THAT is what I cultivate here.
Not force.
Not cruelty.

Have you ever watched a child’s face light with absolute delight at the wonder of being atop a horse?
Watch their eyes dance with the magic that horses lend us?
I ask that you also watch THE HORSE in those moments.
He has no fear of that which he need not be afraid of.
He knows when he is loved, respected , and loved.
He returns this in kind.

A horse is a gift. A treasure.
A magnificent animal to be adored and above all….
Respected.

If you have never experienced this, I ask that you try at last once to do so.
There are horses which should NOT be ridden, for their spirit is wilder and should remain so.

Ahhh, but there are those that love more than anything the touch of their person, to eat up the ground beneath them with their human.
This …..
This is what we watch for, and give where you can.

What some may see as ‘wrong’, I see as an HONOR.
For a horse to WANT our company, ALLOW us to sit astride them, and to love them.
There is a world apart from a horse ‘forced’ and one lovingly handled.
I never do the first.
So yes, we do quite often ‘ride our rescues’, and place them in homes who do the same.
A horse , in many ways, is MUCH like us and have the need to feel ‘useful’, to ‘have a job’.
While beauty is its OWN reason for being ( and is enough!), is it not a magnificent thing to feel useful to, adored by, and respected BY another?
We all have that basic desire, yes?
Why not give that to our horses ?

I absolutely tip my hat to ‘ wild horse’ sanctuaries who do splendid work and allow horses to roam in a ‘free’ environment.
We have several sanctuary horses ourselves but by and large, our sound , healthy, fit horses go on to have a person and a purpose of their own.
This is INCREDIBLY important and key to helping keep them out of ‘the slaughter pipeline’ in the future.

And thus…..
I ask only this~
This may never have been and is not now a dream of yours, but it IS the dream of MANY a child, adult and yes….
Many a horse.

Your opinion is always your own, aye.
But I ask that you respect mine as well and dare NOT judge me for helping other’s dreams come true through kindness, knowledge, respect and ah, yes……
A bit of magic that horses share with us.

“And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.”
― Roald Dahl

Until next time…………
Find the magic, and be kind.
